There’s a common myth in our industry: “If you want better protection, just apply a thicker coating.”
The truth is, thicker coatings can actually be weaker.
Over-coating leads to:
– Under-curing: When a coating is too thick, heat may not penetrate effectively to the base layer. This prevents full cross-linking, leaving the inner layers soft and compromising overall adhesion.
– Brittleness: High-build coatings tend to be less pliable. This lack of flexibility increases the risk of micro-cracks during critical mechanical processes such as flanging or seaming.
– Wastage: Higher cost with no performance benefit.
At EcoPaint, we focus on “Precision & Uniformity.”
Whether it’s our EcoSeam (Side Seam Protection) or EcoSpray (Repair Coating), we engineer our lacquers to provide maximum protection at the optimal micron thickness.
